Hello!
I’m Shilpa — a storyteller, illustrator, and educator. I believe that pictures can convey what words sometimes can’t. For over twenty-four years, I’ve taught illustration and design across India and the U.S., guiding young artists to see their perceived mistakes as stories and turn their imagination into truth.
My Story
My journey began with a challenge: a childhood accident left me without depth perception, and I was once told I couldn’t draw. But I learned to see differently — flat, skewed, angular, and richly detailed — and that became my voice. Children connect to that honesty, to art that feels real rather than perfect.

As a single mother, I found my greatest muse in my son. His adventures inspired Harsh’s Underwater Tale, an eco-conscious book and puppet workshop created with the Mumbai Aquarium — playful, funny, and quietly educational. My stories invite laughter, curiosity, and learning without pressure.

Now pursuing my MFA in Illustration at SCAD, I continue to explore how storytelling can build community, empathy and belonging. Whether through watercolor, Procreate, or words, my goal is always the same — to help children see the world with wonder, humor, and heart.
